Yard Act

Yard Act bring their razor-edged post-punk storytelling to NX Newcastle on 10 November 2026, with special guests on the bill. Formed in Leeds around vocalist James Smith and bassist Ryan Needham, the quartet shape songs from clipped basslines, tight grooves and a talk-sung delivery that flirts with spoken word. Their lyrics zero in on everyday scenes and social quirks, mixing dry humour with sharp observation and a persistent rhythmic pull.

Since their early singles and debut album The Overload in 2022, Yard Act have traced a clear line between post-punk heritage and concise, hook-led songwriting. The narratives stay front and centre, but the band keep the focus on motion: wiry guitars, insistent drums and lines that turn from monologue to chant in a breath.

On stage, that balance lands with a steady, danceable drive and a conversational edge that carries the room without fuss. The set digs into their catalogue while opening space for newer material, all delivered with a direct, unfussy energy. Special guests set the tone before Yard Act take over.
