Info

Formed in Birmingham in 1972 by guitarist-composer Tony Clarkin and singer Bob Catley, Magnum forged a distinctly British strain of melodic rock, mixing AOR sensibility, arena-ready choruses and storytelling lyrics. Early albums like Kingdom of Madness and Magnum II set the tone, while Chase the Dragon refined the balance of clear guitars, prominent keyboards and tightly built refrains. On a Storyteller’s Night opened doors across Europe, followed by a more expansive studio sound on Vigilante, Wings of Heaven and Goodnight L.A. After a 90s split and a 2001 reunion, the band kept writing and touring, from Breath of Life to The Visitation, Lost on the Road to Eternity, The Monster Roars and Here Comes the Rain.

Tony Clarkin’s passing in 2024 marked a turning point, but Bob Catley continues to bring these songs to the stage. On 25 September 2026 at Islington Assembly Hall, London, Magnum revisit every era, from the narrative-driven classics to later highlights, holding to the melodic focus and craft that have defined their sound for decades.
