This Is The Kit

This Is The Kit brings Kate Stables' folk-rooted songs to The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth on 1 September 2026. Led by the Winchester-born singer, guitarist and banjo player, the project has grown from intimate solo sets to a shape-shifting band, over the years including Rozi Plain, Neil Smith and Jamie Whitby-Coles. Regularly heard on BBC Radio 6 Music, their music moves between folk rock and indie currents: acoustic strings and banjo rubbing against rougher electric guitars, lightly off-kilter rhythms and a voice with direct phrasing. From the early single Two Wooden Spoons (2006) through Krülle Bol (2008, with John Parish), Wriggle Out the Restless (2010) and Bashed Out (2015, recorded with Aaron Dessner), to Moonshine Freeze (2017), Off Off On (2020) and Careful of Your Keepers (2023) on Rough Trade, the catalogue maps a clear line of songwriting. The band has shared stages with The National, Sharon Van Etten, Iron & Wine and Herman Dune.
