Alabama 3 (Acoustic)

Alabama 3 bring a stripped-back acoustic set to The 1865 in Southampton on 22 October 2026. Formed in Brixton in the mid-90s, the band carved out a singular path by folding country and blues into the pulse of acid house and trip-hop. Their blend of gospel inflections, harmonica and slide guitar with a wry, very British take on southern imagery made their name, with Woke Up This Morning forever tied to The Sopranos opening credits. But the catalogue runs wider, from Exile on Coldharbour Lane and La Peste to Power in the Blood, M.O.R., Blues and Step 13.

In acoustic mode, the machines step back for grit and harmony: voices up front, guitars and harmonica carrying the groove, the storytelling still sharp. Led by Rob Spragg after the loss of co-founder Jake Black, Alabama 3 revisit and reshape their songs with space and swing, swapping club energy for close-up dynamics without losing the undertow. An evening to hear the writing laid bare, where the hooks and the hymns hold their own without the electronics.
