On 21 August 2026, The Wombats land at The Piece Hall in Halifax for a night of sharp, melodic indie rock. Formed in Liverpool by Matthew Murphy, Dan Haggis and Tord Øverland Knudsen, the trio has moved from wiry guitar rushes to a leaner, synth-tinged pop edge without losing their bite. Live, they balance jittery rhythms, danceable basslines and wry storytelling about anxiety, relationships and everyday contradictions. Expect a set that threads early fan favourites with recent material from Fix Yourself, Not the World and Oh! The Ocean, stitching bright hooks to a taut post-punk pulse.
Joining them, Circa Waves bring the brisk, hook-heavy energy that put the Liverpool band on the map. Built around Kieran Shudall’s pen and a tight rhythm section, their songs hit fast and clean: clear guitars, garage snap, big choruses. From the sunlit immediacy of Young Chasers to the darker punch of Different Creatures, through the pop-leaning turns of What’s It Like Over There?, Sad Happy and Never Going Under, they keep the tempo up and the melodies close to the surface — a fitting counterpoint to The Wombats’ restless groove at The Piece Hall.
