Squeeze bring their finely cut pop writing to The Blackpool Opera House, Blackpool, on 13 November 2026. Formed in London in 1974 around the songwriting pair Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, the band blends new wave bite with melodic craft and everyday storytelling. From the late-70s run of Take Me I’m Yours, Cool for Cats and Up the Junction to albums like East Side Story and Sweets from a Stranger, their catalogue traces break-ups, returns and steady reinvention. Across changing line-ups, Difford–Tilbrook remain the creative core, with recent records such as Cradle to the Grave and The Knowledge extending that mix of crisp hooks and narrative detail.
Very special guest Billy Bragg opens with the electric guitar-and-voice setup that first set him apart in the post-punk era. His early releases Life’s a Riot with Spy vs Spy, Brewing Up and Talking with the Taxman about Poetry established a direct, plainspoken style where social observation, politics and intimate songs share space. From Workers Playtime and Don’t Try This at Home to the Mermaid Avenue projects with Wilco on Woody Guthrie lyrics, he has broadened the palette while keeping the message close. His more recent work, including England, Half English and The Million Things That Never Happened, shows the same clear line between folk roots and alternative rock.
