La Rumba's 9th Birthday x Dub Shack - Nightmares on Wax (dj set)

Nightmares On Wax brings a deep-digging DJ set to Electric Studios, Sheffield, on 12 June 2026. George Evelyn’s journey starts in Leeds sound system culture and runs through three decades of crate craft, from the sample-rich haze of Smokers Delight to the reflective flow of Shout Out! To Freedom. That path shaped his trademark blend of downtempo rhythms, hip hop swing, dub basslines and soul textures, always guided by groove rather than genre lines.

The Echo45 story runs through it all, from the battered speaker box that first linked him with Kevin Harper to the 2025 Echo45 mixtape, a continuation of that lineage in sound system form. On the decks, Evelyn pieces together roots, soul, hip hop, dub and supple electronics with a selector’s ear, moving between warm head-nod instrumentals and low-end pressure built for a room.

Marking two decades since In a Space Outta Sound, his catalogue is also in dialogue with Adrian Sherwood and On-U Sound, who have reworked eight tracks for In A Space Outta Dub. That conversation between versions and originals feeds a set where past and present overlap, and where Nightmares On Wax stays anchored in pulse, texture and atmosphere.
