Info

Australian guitarist and composer Plini brings his instrumental project to Manchester Academy in Manchester on 23 May 2026. Since the early 2010s, he’s been shaping detailed melodic lines and progressive forms that drift between rock and metal, with touches of jazz fusion and ambient. On stage, his band gives space to dynamic contrasts, odd-meter grooves and layered harmonies, moving from tight unison passages to spacious, textural moments. Pieces from Handmade Cities, Sunhead, Impulse Voices and the more recent Mirage often anchor the set, balancing riff-driven energy with lyrical phrasing and a careful sense of dynamics.

Sharing the bill, Sungazer is the New York duo of bassist Adam Neely and drummer Shawn Crowder. Their music sits at the junction of jazz, electronic textures and prog, built on asymmetrical meters, drum’n’bass-inflected beats and modern harmony. After sketches and EPs, Perihelion set their studio tone in 2021; live, the pair rework structures, open short windows for improvisation and lean into a tight, detailed sound. Melodic basslines, crisp drums and synth layers push the rhythm forward, somewhere between contemporary jazz clubs and experimental stages.
