Free Throw headline Newcastle University Students’ Union, Newcastle upon Tyne, on 8 July 2026. Since forming in 2012, the Nashville emo-punk quintet has built its name on steady touring and candid songwriting. Their 2014 debut, Those Days Are Gone, put them on stages worldwide alongside Hot Mulligan and New Found Glory and at festivals like Slam Dunk and Riot Fest. They arrive now with Moments Before The Wind, a sixth LP on Wax Bodega recorded with longtime producer Brett Romnes around the 10-year run of their debut. The record leans into a liminal headspace — loss, renewal, reflection, and the anticipation of a child — set to a mix of Midwest emo lines, punk bite and crashing alternative rock dynamics. Onstage, they draw from the new material while revisiting key songs across their catalog, keeping that balance between urgency and introspection.
Also on the bill, Saturdays at Your Place carry the Midwest thread from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Formed in 2021 at Western Michigan University, the trio — Esden Stafne (bass, vocals), Gabe Wood (drums, vocals) and Mitch Gulish (guitar) — shapes a lean, melodic emo sound with tight arrangements and direct hooks. After the album something worth celebrating and the EP always cloudy, they returned with these things happen in 2025, pushing a DIY-rooted approach well suited to compact, punchy sets.
