Bahamas: Industrial Sport & Sound

Bahamas is the project of Canadian songwriter and guitarist Afie Jurvanen. First known as Feist’s sideman, he stepped out with Pink Strat and Barchords, sketching a lean sound built on roomy grooves, soft harmonies and guitar lines that carry as much feeling as the lyrics. Bahamas Is Afie refined that palette; Earthtones and Sad Hunk nudged it toward a supple soul pulse; Bootcut (2023) brought a country-americana tint without losing the ease of his voice and touch. Across these records he writes about everyday corners with a light hand and a steady melodic sense.

On September 20, 2026 at Malkin Bowl in Vancouver, Bahamas brings that understated mix to the stage: close-knit vocals, fingerpicked patterns, and a rhythm section that lopes rather than charges. Newer Bootcut cuts sit alongside long-running staples, reworked with space and detail. Jurvanen tends to keep things unforced, letting dynamics, silences and small guitar inflections do the talking. A set that drifts between folk, soul and warm pop, played with clarity and calm.
