Info

Roméo & Juliette has already been seen by more than 11 million people worldwide. Translated into 18 languages and staged in 20 countries, the show has retained its status as a landmark of French musical theatre. Launched in 2001 at the Palais des Congrès, where it attracted nearly 2.5 million spectators, the production became a touchstone for a generation, embodied from the start by the duo Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara.

Roméo & Juliette gives audiences the chance to see its original duo back on stage.

Cécilia Cara confides: returning to Paris with Roméo & Juliette is moving. I was chosen at 15 to play Juliet, a role that marked the start of my life as an artist. Reuniting with it twenty years later alongside Damien was a powerful moment, as if we had never parted but had been enriched by what life has given us. This return carries symbolic value: coming full circle, going back to where it all began, with 25 years of experience that now inform the characters in a different way. The story continues to bring people together and to convey love and emotion.

In the same vein, Damien Sargue adds: returning to Paris after taking Roméo & Juliette around the world, notably to Asia, has a particular resonance. This role has accompanied me since 2001, and finding it again today beside Cécilia, with the perspective and maturity that time has given us, gives this adventure a new depth.

With more than 9 million records sold and songs that have become part of French pop culture, including “Les Rois du monde” and “Aimer,” Roméo & Juliette has left its mark on the history of musical theatre. For nearly 25 years the show has traveled across cultures and adapted to the changes of its time: new techniques, new stage conventions, new audience expectations. Faithful to its DNA while renewing itself, it preserves what defines it: familiar songs, a distinctive stage aesthetic and a strong sense of spectacle.

For Gérard Presgurvic, Roméo & Juliette remains a great love story. Universal and timeless, it poses a question that is still relevant: how far are we willing to go for love? Shakespeare answers with a force that spans the centuries, and it is this emotion that we continue to share with the public. Reuniting Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara, more than twenty years after their debuts, brings a new depth to the production.

With the announcement of Roméo & Juliette’s return, this is not a mere refresh. In 2027 Roméo & Juliette returns in a reimagined version, incorporating new generational codes while preserving the essence that has made it successful for a quarter of a century: a timeless story, universal emotions and a recognized musical signature. This comeback will feature a new cast, new costumes and new scenography, redesigned for today without altering the show’s DNA.
