Info
Tinariwen bring the pulse of the Sahara to The Palace Theatre in Calgary on Monday, September 7, 2026. Formed by Tuareg musicians from northern Mali, the collective helped shape what the West calls desert blues, a style they name assouf—the feeling of longing and open horizons. Their songs, in Tamasheq and Arabic, carry stories of freedom, exile and resilience, trading years of conflict for guitars and group voices.
On stage, interlaced riffs, low-slung bass and handclaps build a rolling groove, while rough harmonies answer each other. The music moves in waves: spacious, patient and steady, rooted in nomadic rhythms without rushing the tempo. Guitars lead the way, percussive and melodic at once, leaving space for the lyrics and the pulse.
The set draws from early staples and newer material, with room for extended instrumentals and refrains that invite the crowd in. Special guests join for the evening.
