Info
For Mass Prod’s 30th anniversary, 8°6 Crew takes the stage at the Big Band Café in Hérouville-Saint-Clair on 17 April 2026. Formed in the mid-1990s in the Paris region, the band draws its repertoire from Jamaican roots of the 1960s and ’70s, spanning ska, rocksteady and early reggae.
The group moves as a solid unit, driven by a prominent brass section, sharp offbeat accents and arrangements that also borrow from soul and skinhead reggae. Faithful to the genre’s historical forms more than to its recent offshoots, 8°6 Crew plays direct melodies and a rhythm that alternates between a tight, clipped pulse and a measured tempo.
Years of ska and reggae stages in France and across Europe have consolidated this old-school sound, conceived for the tension of live performance and the efficiency of collective playing. At the Big Band Café, the set traces these influences without overloading the formula: precise brass, clean skank guitar, a spot-on rhythm section and straightforward vocal lines. It’s a dive into the rude boy aesthetic, between the energy of ska and the warmth of rocksteady, delivered by a band that has remained consistent in its approach to reinterpreting Jamaican classics on stage.
