Sunn O )))

On 21 June 2026 Sunn O))) will play at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The duo of Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson have been delving since the late 1990s into the extremes of amplified guitar sound: slow-moving drones, long-sustained bourdon tones, almost no rhythm — everything in service of timbre, volume and duration. From ØØ Void and Black One to Altar, Monoliths & Dimensions and Life Metal/Pyroclasts, they have honed a vocabulary of their own that allows doom, ambient and noise to merge. Live, that sonic vocabulary reaches its full force: a slowly unfolding stream of saturated chords, low frequencies that set the space in motion, and a misty scenography that slows down listening. This is less about songs than about a physical, almost ritual arc of tension.

Support comes from Natasa Grujovic & Steve Moore. They open the evening and lay out the lines for what follows, with soundscapes that build the tension and bring the audience into the right state of concentration for Sunn O)))’s wave of sound.
