Marillion

On 20 October 2026 Marillion will play at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The British band, formed in Aylesbury in the late 1970s, carved its own path between prog-rock heritage and direct songwriting. In the early 1980s Marillion attracted attention with Fish as frontman and records such as Script for a Jester’s Tear, Fugazi and Misplaced Childhood: long, melodic pieces delivered with a theatrical narrative style. With the arrival of singer Steve Hogarth at the end of the decade, the course shifted toward a more introspective, atmospheric sound, audible on Seasons End and the cinematic Brave.

The core lineup – Steve Rothery, Mark Kelly, Pete Trewavas, Ian Mosley and Hogarth – keeps the band tight and precise, both in the studio and live. Since then Marillion has explored longer formats, cyclical themes and subtle layers in which prog, pop and ambient interlock. Albums like Marbles, F E A R and the recent An Hour Before It’s Dark illustrate that trajectory. Live, this translates into songs that take their time, dynamics that build, and a band that carries its audience along without falling back on nostalgia.
