Tinariwen

Tinariwen will perform on 7 May 2026 at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. The Tuareg group from the Sahara brought the desert blues to the stage in their own terms: assuf, that feeling of longing, distance and the vastness of the land. Once part of the Tuareg uprising, they exchanged weapons for guitars; since then they have sung about freedom, life on the road and hope. Expect layered, cyclical guitar lines that interlock, grainy voices and a rhythmic pulse that pushes forward calmly but steadily. Tamasheq poetry and call-and-response set the tone, while percussion and handclaps root the groove.

Live, the music unfolds with long breaths: repeating motifs, small shifts and a slow-building arc of tension. No frills, just melodies that keep circling, like dust in warm air. In Utrecht that energy sounds close: songs about home, wandering and holding on to your own rhythm. Tinariwen perform with directness and spatial openness, balancing silence and drive, the guitars serving as a compass.
