Gare Du Nord

On 26 April 2026 Gare Du Nord will be at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The music collective, formed in the early 2000s around Barend Fransen and Ferdi Lancee, has been shifting the boundaries between nu-jazz, soul and lounge since their debut album In Search of Excellounge. Live, that studio aesthetic emerges with a flexible band lineup and the distinctive voice of Dorona Alberti. Slow grooves, soulful hooks, jazz harmonies and cinematic atmospheres form the basis; there is room for subtle electronics and a touch of blues.

On stage Gare Du Nord works with extended arcs of tension, compact riffs and melodies that nod to film soundtracks. Drawing on material from periods such as Sex ’n’ Jazz and Love for Lunch as well as more recent work, the set builds a nocturnal flow that suits both club and theatre. No detours for the sake of form; it’s about feel, timing and interplay, with the singing as an anchor.

An evening for those who enjoy jazz with a pop sensibility, a relaxed tempo and a warm band sound — without frills but with attention to detail. Groningen will receive a concert that makes the journey from studio to stage tangible, intimate and clear, exactly where Gare Du Nord excels.
