Kevin Richard Martin, aka The Bug, regularly hosts Pressure nights at Gretchen, and for this event we will set up his sound system for an entire day to make the alloy of grime, dub, hip‑hop, dubstep, electronica and other facets of bass music not only audible but physically tangible.
Kevin Richard Martin has been producing music for years under at least nine different pseudonyms. Last year, as The Bug together with Ghost Dubs, he released "Implosion," which blends angular dub, isolationist ambient, dub techno and elements of doom metal. In contrast, the work "Machine" (2024) combines sub‑bass, industrial sound and a dark tempo. MC Flowdan will also be present — he has worked closely with The Bug for 20 years. His career spans the full timeline of grime. He has received a Grammy.
Aba Shanti‑I is known in the dub and roots reggae scene for a clear, defined sound. Deeply rooted in sound‑system culture, his sessions are characterized by a focused, physical orientation. His sound is slow, structured and physically palpable.
Ed Rush comes with a No U‑Turn set. The label’s sound, like Ed Rush himself, stands for the darker core of drum'n'bass: bass‑focused and minimalistically dark, with a tangible impact.
Kenyan singer, producer and songwriter Lord Spikeheart fuses industrial, hard beats, deep bass, hard trance and technoid sounds with metal and grindcore. His debut "The Adept" (2024) is a work of extreme sounds. The EP "REIGN" unites industrial, death metal, grindcore, African rhythms and club aesthetics.
