Info
The Fray bring their Summer of Light Tour to MacEwan Hall Concerts in Calgary on May 25, 2026, joined by The Strumbellas. A night centered on songs that balance piano-led hooks, tight guitars and communal refrains.
Formed in Denver in the early 2000s, The Fray built a piano-driven alternative rock sound at the edge of pop and melodic balladry. Built around singer-pianist Isaac Slade and guitarist Joe King, the band shaped a writing style focused on harmonies and lyrics about relationships and doubt. How to Save a Life (2005) pushed them beyond their hometown with Over My Head (Cable Car) and the title track, then came the self-titled album in 2009, Scars & Stories in 2012 and Helios in 2014, adding more pop shades and atmospheric layers. A 2016 best-of closed a first chapter; on stage, they reconnect that catalogue with a set that moves from early piano anthems to later, more textured cuts.
From Toronto, The Strumbellas blend indie folk, alternative rock and a hint of country, built on group vocals and straight-ahead choruses. After early records, the song Spirits on Hope (2016) put their sing-along side front and center, followed by Rattlesnake (2019). Since 2022, Jimmy Chauveau handles lead vocals on stage while Simon Ward remains main songwriter, a shift carried into Part Time Believer (2024). Live, expect vocal call-and-response and steady, upbeat momentum.
