Uada lead the charge at Dickens in Calgary on April 14, 2026. Formed in Portland in 2014, the quartet shapes a melodic strain of black metal that threads rapid‑fire riffs with broad, atmospheric passages. On stage, the masked lineup keeps things stripped and focused, pushing long‑form songs that balance speed and spaciousness. The set leans from the sharpened edges of Devoid of Light to the expanded contours of Djinn and Crepuscule Natura.
Mortiis brings a different temperature, drawing from early dungeon synth roots through later industrial‑leaning phases. The Norwegian composer moves between immersive synthscapes and heavier, beat‑driven pieces, with a strong visual thread running through masks and stark staging. Live, he stitches these chapters into a single arc, from medieval‑tinged ambience to electronic pulse.
Rome, the project of Luxembourg’s Jérôme Reuter, works a restrained form of dark folk built on acoustic guitars, minimal percussion and a voice close to spoken word. Lyrics pull on historical and political themes, while the music can tilt toward rock textures without losing its neofolk core. On stage, the repertoire lands with clear motifs and a measured intensity.
Wraith Knight opens with dungeon synth from US producer Nick Superchi, crafting instrumental pieces of candlelit keys and spectral harmonies. It sets the tone for what follows.
