Diana Krall

Diana Krall brings her piano and voice to FirstOntario Concert Hall in Hamilton on April 8, 2026. Trained at Berklee and guided early on by Ray Brown, she has shaped a live approach where the trio anchors the sound, swing stays unforced, and phrasing remains close to the song. The set leans into the Great American Songbook, nods to the Nat King Cole Trio, and drifts toward the bossa nova colors she explored from The Look of Love to Quiet Nights. Originals co-written with Elvis Costello on The Girl in the Other Room find their place alongside standards revisited on Turn Up the Quiet and This Dream of You.

On stage, Krall balances crisp left-hand pulse and pared-back, conversational solos with a low, grainy tone that reframes ballads at an easy tempo. The group plays with space more than volume, letting bass, brushes and piano trade the lead without crowding the melody. Arrangements breathe, bridges get reharmonized, grooves settle into a walk and then loosen. The repertoire shifts from swing to slow-burn ballads and Brazilian inflections, but the center holds: songs carried by touch, time and an ear for detail.
