Calema

Calema is a duo of brothers, António and Fradique Mendes Ferreira, born in São Tomé and Príncipe and now based between Portugal and France. On April 24, 2026, they bring their afro-lusophone pop to MTELUS, 59 Rue Sainte-Catherine Est, Montréal, Canada. Their songs, sung in Portuguese, lean into romantic themes with smooth melodies, kizomba-tinged rhythms, and light touches of R&B and electronic production.

First noticed in the early 2010s through covers and early singles online, the duo reached a wider audience after a 2014 appearance on a Portuguese talent show, which opened the way to regular touring between Europe and Africa. Settled in Portugal, they kept a steady flow of singles circulating across the lusophone world and stayed active on video platforms. In 2019, Calema took part in Festival da Canção with A Dois, anchoring their place in contemporary Portuguese pop. Since then, they have multiplied collaborations with singers and producers from Portuguese and African urban scenes, blending soft African influences with current pop.
