Thaïs Vauquières turns her family meals into material for sketches and presents Fille de joie, a funny, unvarnished self-portrait. At 33, single, childless, a freelance performer and a redhead, she lays out her impulse-related phobias, her respiratory, food and—above all—social allergies, her angioedema (Quincke’s edema) and her eczema. She uses them as a throughline to tell the story of a family evening that features a vegan cousin, a father in the midst of a revelation, a very open-minded mother and secrets that surface at the worst possible moment. Between punchlines and confidences, she navigates this familiar chaos with a knack for detail that speaks to everyone, slipping in the comparison that suits her: at 33, Jesus had also finished his story.
