Thaïs « Fille de joie »

Thaïs returns with Fille de joie, a one-woman show in which she turns family dinners into a field of observation. At 33, single, childless, a freelance performing artist and redheaded, she pulls on the thread of her anxieties and allergies — respiratory, food-related and sometimes social — to tell the story of an evening that goes awry. We meet a vegan cousin, a father in the midst of a revelation, a very open mother and an uncle who deflates the mood in three sentences. In the middle of it all, Thaïs searches for her place and a way to hold on when the celebration turns into a settling of scores.

With a direct delivery and a finely honed eye for detail, she strings together small disasters and long silences, from impulsive phobias to angioedema (Quincke’s edema), right up to secrets that escape without warning. She observes the family unit unfiltered, with a lucidity that stings just enough, and turns her contradictions into raw material. Fille de joie is her way of naming the joyful survival we call life.
