Protoje

A key figure in contemporary Jamaican reggae, Protoje will perform at Le Splendid Lille on April 5, 2026. He is responsible for songs that have become touchstones of the current scene, such as “Who Knows,” “Rasta Love,” “Kingston Be Wise,” “Switch It Up,” and “Really Like You.” His open-minded reggae draws on hip-hop, soul, R&B, trap, dub and sometimes rock—an approach that has taken him from clubs to major stages and earned him multiple Grammy nominations. With his collective The In.Digg.Nation, he helped drive the Reggae Revival movement and supported the emergence of a new generation of artists.

In recent years, Protoje has produced a series of conceptual projects, including a trilogy centered on time—A Matter of Time, In Search of Lost Time and Third Time’s the Charm—recorded at his studio The Habitat in the hills of Kingston. He then released In Search of Zion, a roots and dub reinterpretation of ten tracks with the Zion I Kings crew, and hit the road as a sound system with Tippy I. His music has been widely covered—from outlets like Vogue, Billboard, the BBC, Le Monde, Télérama and Nova to festivals such as Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Rototom Sunsplash, Summerjam, Dour, Eurockéennes and No Logo. His EP The Jamaican Situation sketches the soundtrack for a short film about contemporary Jamaica, while he is working on a new album due in early 2026.
