Villagers of Ioannina City come from Epirus and have been shaping a progressive rock soaked in psychedelic sounds and Greek folk influences since 2007. Slowness, melancholy and telluric pulses mingle to build a dense sonic texture in which stoner acts as the backbone. Their first album, Riza (2014), set the scene for a universe where traditional motifs rub up against massive guitars. With Age of Aquarius (2019), the band widened its spectrum, establishing a more expansive language and compositions both hypnotic and rough-hewn, crafted for the stage.
My Diligence, a Belgian outfit, develops a heavy-psych sound with stoner hues and a strong sense of melody. Between carefully worked harmonies and immediate choruses, the trio pushed the envelope on The Matter, Form and Power (2022), produced by Francis Caste and mastered by Raphaël Bovey — an album with a broad, immersive sound that reveals a more spontaneous facet without sacrificing rhythmic precision.
