In 1998, the British alternative rock band bôa released the single Duvet, which was used in the Japanese anime Serial Experiments Lain. Nearly two decades later, Duvet resurfaced on TikTok and reignited interest in the band. Today, Duvet has more than 450 million streams on Spotify. The band then returned to the studio to record their first new material in over 20 years.
In the meantime, the members of bôa have carried on with their lives. The hiatus that began in 2004 was not marked by any acrimony. Singer-guitarist Jasmine Rodgers studied zoology while releasing solo music. Bassist Alex Caird devoted himself to art, painting, and teaching music. Drummer Lee Sullivan focused on his family life while writing and producing music.
Their third album, Whiplash, is scheduled for release on October 18 through Nettwerk.
