Info

On May 12, 2026, John Scofield and Gerald Clayton meet at the Espace Malraux in Joué-lès-Tours for a duo marked by attentive listening and improvisation. Guitarist and pianist answer one another with obvious rapport, engaging in a dialogue where each idea flows freely across generations.

John Scofield made his name in the 1970s alongside Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan and then Miles Davis. His playing, rooted in post-bop and open to jazz-funk and R&B grooves, moves through clear lines, a mellow, velvety tone and blues inflections. A prolific composer, he cultivates rhythmic and harmonic freedom that provides an ideal foundation for musical conversation.

Born in the Netherlands and based in the United States, Gerald Clayton, a pianist and composer with multiple Grammy nominations, emerged on Blue Note with Happening: Live at the Village Vanguard in 2020. Trained by Billy Childs and a former member of Roy Hargrove’s group, he has collaborated with Diana Krall, Dianne Reeves, Terence Blanchard and Ben Wendel. His precise, supple touch, grounded in the modern tradition, gives each motif room to breathe.

Two worlds, two careers, one language: between original themes and reinterpreted repertoire, this duo explores the moment and makes space for the unexpected.
