Okay, imagine this: At their concert in Winterthur 2007 Built to Spill a famous american indie band gets aware of their local support Disco Doom, a - outside switzerland less famous duo with changing musicians but a stable core. Anita and Gabriele are asked to support Built to Spill's upcoming six week european tour 2008. What the fuck! Hell yeah!
Tour keeps going. Somehow pretty damn good.
Built to Spill return to the States. We are going to tour the US soon. Maybe you could manage to join us? Let's keep in touch.

The good news are really coming and shows are booked for almost every night, stuff is packed. 3 months all across the States, gigs with Built to Spill and Dinosaur Jr. Driving along endless highways, inns or motels, joshuas and trees, deserts and coasts.
Land's passing by, hanging in loops, sometimes interrupted by noisy trucks passing. Stars above seem to drone at night; they are that near you get the feeling being in between them, communicate with them. Or is it just the neon sign outside the window?
After weeks and numerous miles on the road the words of THEM! becoming familiar and places turn out to be chimeras. Some of them are memorized, burnt into minds (Why not Portland?).
Going back is hard but going home is easy. The best journeys are the ones you just let happen anyway.

Instead of pictures or diarys that always are just impressions of experiences, Disco Doom brought us people at home 6 tracks, most of them wordless. It's not the words narrating pictures, it's the tones, sounds and noise, creating the atmosphere.
The album was recorded in the States as well, in the AVAST! Studios in Seattle. The drums are played by Jason Albertini. He did play the bass for Disco Doom during the US-tour and he's know from bands like Helvetia, Duster and from the very early Queens Of The Stone Age. The album was recorded and mixed by Jim Roth of Built to Spill who contributed as musician on two songs as well (Port Land and Sands Inn). Maybe the sound would have been less intense if recorded at home in Switzerland. Or probably not. Because knowing Disco Doom it is sure they can beam you in any place they want. Doesn't matter if Switzerland or Mars - the music is the destination.
