Brazil is no longer exported solely through bossa nova and beach rhythms: it is now emerging in more electronic forms.
Mari Merenda is one example. Revealed by Veneno, her collaboration with Sofi Tukker, she has, in a few months, built a popularity that transcends the borders of her country, without ever straying from the tropicalist heritage that threads through each of her productions.
Beside her on this concert, Virginia Cambuci offers a more subdued counterpoint. Based in Paris since 2011 after years spent between Fortaleza and Madrid, she has built there a repertoire where MPB, bossa nova and the rhythms of the Northeast respond to one another naturally, carried by a voice full of nuance.
