Symbiosis 26-27 - Baloji

Screenings, concerts, performances, encounters with audiences, and installations will mark this year dedicated to the various facets of his work. Symbiosis invites each year an artist to become one with the building’s spaces and their programming, in a logic inspired by institutional permaculture that guides the Palais de Tokyo project. The aim is to engage with the spaces through various formats of engagement with audiences, from the most discreet and intimate interventions to the most striking gestures. Around recurring motifs such as the rejection of social labels, the emancipatory power of play and imagination, or the body as a site of memory, Baloji pursues at the Palais de Tokyo a research at the intersection of music, cinema, photography, installation and performance. He regards these media as complementary elements of a formal, poetic and political vocabulary, in which images, objects, bodies, sounds and narratives respond to one another, transform and mutually extend one another. Throughout the year, this invitation will notably enable the discovery of a selection of his short films, visual and narrative laboratories, as well as his first feature film, Augure, presented at Cannes in 2023, of which one concert will extend the narrative universe. A highlight in June 2027 will provide the occasion to accompany the release of his second feature film, currently in editing, through performances, installations and a new augmented-reality film.
