On February 17, 2027, The Ocean arrives at Grillen in Colmar with their chiaroscuro metal, somewhere between post-metal, prog, and experimentation. Born in Berlin around guitarist Robin Staps, the band has long kept a collective spirit before tightening up, without losing the taste for wide swings: massive riffs, atmospheric textures, near-orchestral layers, and, in recent years, increasingly assertive electronic touches. On stage, The Ocean brings their concept albums to life as taut narratives, fueled by the history of the Earth and its depths: the Precambrian geological ages to the marine vertigo of Pelagial, then the Phanerozoic diptych. With Holocene, released in 2023, the band pushes its writing further toward a more melodic progressive style, sometimes less upfront, but always precise. Expect a dense, contrasted set, conceived as a journey.
