Info
On December 13, 2026, at Exchange in Bristol, Sam Shackleton brings his acoustic folk set to the stage, rooted in Scottish storytelling and the kind of songs that travel by word of mouth. Born in Stirling and raised across the Borders and the Highlands, he works from the traditional ballad tradition but keeps the doors open: Irish and American echoes slip in naturally, with touches of country, old-time and blues.
Known to some as Sorley the Bard, Shackleton leans into the essentials: voice first, songs that carry narratives, and a feel for transmission rather than showy arrangement. Expect a mix of personal writing and reworked older material, shaped by the spirit of the 1960s folk revival, where interpretation matters as much as the source. His background in Scottish ethnology and folklore isn’t a side note here; it feeds the way he treats memory, place, and the Scottish landscape as part of the music’s backbone.
