Info
Gibraltar, Reconciled Identities.
Born in Paris, he grew up in a social housing estate in the Neuhof district of Strasbourg. French and Alsatian, with African roots, Abd Al Malik established himself as a prolific and award-winning artist—the only hip-hop artist to have won four consecutive Victoires de la Musique awards, a knight of the Order of Arts and Letters and later of the Legion of Honour. Writer, filmmaker, and stage director, he brings rap into dialogue with poetry, theatre and philosophy.
Twenty years after its release, celebrating Gibraltar reaffirms the urgency of reconciliation—within oneself and with others. On stage, words, bodies, images and music (slam, rap, singing, dance, DJ and acoustic accompaniment) converge to tell identity as a universal that is born from the local and surpasses it.
