On January 21, 2027, at La Source in Fontaine, Léon Phal comes to present Bodies & Ideas, a project tailored for those who enjoy when jazz engages with the present moment. A saxophonist born in 1991 and trained as much in classical music as in jazz, he moves with a highly lyrical sound, a true sense of motifs, and themes that linger, without sacrificing the momentum of improvisation.
At the helm of his quintet, Phal develops writing where the pulse matters as much as the melody: a contemporary jazz that embraces groove, fusion, and tones drawn from African music, hip-hop, or soul. Following Canto Bello and Dust to Stars, this concert promises a collective, vibrant music, made of compositions that breathe and of passages that are more open where everyone has their place. An evening to listen to the saxophone tell stories, to make ideas dance, and to move bodies, never falling into the demonstrative.
