On April 27, 2027, Simple Minds will bring their European tour to the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg. Since the late 1970s, Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill have been forging a sound that fuses post-punk edge, New Wave elegance, and this broad, synth-driven rock aesthetic. Live, the nervy energy of the early years meets the big, clear melodies of the 80s and the punchy band sound of later albums—dense, rhythmic, and always with that inclination toward atmospheric guitar textures and driving grooves. In the set, milestones such as 'Don't You (Forget About Me)' can sit alongside material from their more recent releases, which trace the arc back to their roots.
As the supporting act, Level 42 will be on the bill: formed in 1979 on the Isle of Wight, they stand for jazz-funk and clever British pop. Mark King's distinctive basslines, Mike Lindup's keys, and the breezy groove keep their songs to this day a mix of funk drive, fusion details, and catchy choruses—ideal to get the Hamburg evening moving.
