Abd Al Malik, Gibraltar, Identities Reconciled Twenty Years On.
Abd Al Malik revisits, twenty years after, the album Gibraltar that redefined French rap. He celebrates the twenty-year milestone of this album, a cornerstone of his discography, with a stage production around identity that blends music, orality (singing, slam, and rap), dance and visual art at the Espace Malraux.
A multi-talented artist, Abd Al Malik works as a rapper, singer-songwriter, filmmaker, screenwriter, and theatre director. In the rap arena, he blossomed as a solo artist from the early 2000s. Five albums were released between 2004 and 2015. The second, Gibraltar (2006), eloquently addresses migratory issues at the heart of our era.
To celebrate the twenty-year anniversary of this manifesto album, Abd Al Malik gives form to a total spectacle in which music, orality (chant, slam, rap), dance and visual art interact. In his view, this celebration aims to suggest today the importance and urgency of reconciliation: an inner dialogue and a dialogue with others.
