UK Subs 50th Anniversary 2027 - The Final Farewell.
The UK Subs, after 50 years, are officially calling it a day in order to pass the torch over to the younger punk bands they have hopefully inspired for half a century. 2027 will be the final UK Subs gigs at The Adrian Flux Waterfront in Norwich.
Since forming in the summer of 1977, Charlie and the band have stood as a beating heart of British punk rock, outlasting eras, trends and peers with a strong work ethic. Driven by Charlie’s energy, which forged a loyal fanbase, the UK Subs proved that punk was not a passing phase but a lifelong commitment.
From the hooks of the debut album Another Kind of Blues, the band eventually completed an album for every letter of the alphabet and beyond. The UK Subs have played thousands of gigs across the globe in venues both small and large, and in doing so, they have defined a never-say-die spirit of DIY independence.

We are infinitely grateful to all previous members of the band, those behind the scenes who’ve helped keep our show on the road, and especially to every single person who has bought our records or merch, and chatted with us at the bar at a show, we are so grateful to have the best set of fans in the world, so we will see you somewhere on the road for this last hurrah. Subhumans were, between 1980-85, one of the prolific and original bands of the evolving UK punk scene. They were based in Warminster, Wiltshire, and the lineup was Dick on vocals, Bruce on guitar, Phil on bass and Trotsky on drums. Dick had previously sung for The Mental, who released one EP and embodied the early punk “anyone can do it” attitude. Bruce had been in the Stupid Humans, also based in Warminster; these two met at an Angelic Upstarts gig in 1980, and when their bands split they got together to form Subhumans.
Musical influences were a mix of Sex Pistols, Damned and similar punk originators, and pre-punk bands like King Crimson and Frank Zappa, which led to a style of punk more intricate in its structure than their contemporaries, without losing the energy and dynamics of punk. Dick’s lyrics, socially aware and critical of social norms, placed them in the anarcho-punk area of the UK punk scene of the early 80s, alongside Crass, Antisect, Conflict and Flux of Pink Indians, who released the band’s first three EPs Demolition War, Reason For Existence and Religious Wars and their first LP in 1983, The Day The Country Died.
In 1983 they formed their own label, Bluurg Records, and over the next two years released From the Cradle to the Grave LP, Evolution EP, Time Flies 12" EP, Rats EP, Worlds Apart LP and 29:29 Split Vision LP, which was released after splitting up in 1985. By then they had played 262 gigs including several European tours and two in the USA. Dick went on to join ska-punk-reggae band Culture Shock and met up with Phil and Trotsky again in Citizen Fish, who have recorded several LPs and played many gigs.
In 1998 these three ex-Subhumans brought Bruce back in to reform Subhumans to see what it felt like, and, it feeling good, have kept going with occasional touring and a limited release CD of old unused songs, Unfinished Business. New songs are being created slowly but surely for another studio release, and a live one was released as part of the Live in a Dive series on Fat Wreck Chords, recorded in April 2003 in Corona, California during a USA tour.
Knock Off are a hard hitting punk trio, taking influences from the early 80s UK punk scene and giving it a modern twist. With a raw and powerful sound and choruses that stick in your head, Knock Off leave their mark. Formed in September 2013, the Knock Off repertoire is inspired by football, anger, disillusionment at a country going down the pan and life in general. There is also some humour in the set, such as a love song called Love Song. A Knock Off gig can be described as an onslaught of hard and fast songs, a wall of noise designed to make an impact.
