On 15 January 2027, Novastar will perform at PLT – Theater Heerlen, with Joost Zweegers once again at the heart of his project. Novastar has long straddled the line between pop and melodic rock: piano ballads with room to breathe, sober guitars, and a voice that doesn't push melancholy away but rather takes it along. In his songwriting you hear as much pop tradition as folk and alternative, without frills and with much attention to melody.
Since the breakthrough after Humo's Rock Rally (1996), Zweegers has built a recognizable repertoire, with songs that in Belgium and the Netherlands have grown into fixtures, such as "Wrong", "Caramia" and "The Best Is Yet to Come". Albums such as Another Lonely Soul, Almost Bangor, Inside Outside and later work show an artist who continues to refine: sometimes more band-like, sometimes more intimate, but always with that clear, sensitive pop-rock thread as the through line. In Heerlen you can therefore expect a set that shifts smoothly between old and new, carried by strong songs.
