On October 17, 2026, in Bordeaux, Avishai Cohen returns to the stage with that sense of movement and melody that has become his signature. A double bassist, composer and sometimes vocalist, the Israeli has forged a highly rhythmic language where jazz rubs shoulders with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern colors, with Latin detours and a few more classical escapades.
Having settled in New York in the early 1990s, he quickly drew attention, eventually crossing paths with Chick Corea, who brought him into Origin and then the New Trio, tours included. As a leader, it all begins with Adama (1998), followed by a dense discography that has seen him refine an immediate, instinctive writing, carried by the bass and motifs that linger in the mind, without hampering improvisation.
On stage, Cohen plays on contrasts: tight grooves, lyricism, breaths, and this taste for blending that links his compositions to Sephardic traditions, to Hebrew or to Ladino, depending on the pieces. A concert conceived as a journey, guided from start to finish by a musical presence that is both precise and very vibrant.
