Martyn Joseph is a unique artist. Take everything you think you know about singer-songwriters and rip it up. For one man and a guitar he creates a performance with a far-reaching sound that is energetic, compelling and passionate.
Compared to Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, Bruce Cockburn and Dave Matthews, he has created his own style and reputation as a live performer and stands in his own right, built on a reputation for giving what thousands have described as the best live music experience of their lives.
A talent driven by passion, social awareness and love for his trade, he’s a guitar player who has developed a percussive style, teamed up with a powerful voice, and has been called “The Welsh Springsteen”.
In April 2019 he won a Wales Folk Award for “Here Come the Young”, and in 2023 he was nominated for Best Solo Artist.
His 2021 record “1960” was made Folk Album of the Month in Mojo and awarded 4 stars by Uncut, and remained in the UK Official Folk charts for much of 2022.
In 2024 he was invited by BBC Radio 2 for a second time to write a song as part of their 21st Century Folk project, penning and performing “Chapel Porth Beach” to mark the 200th anniversary of the RNLI. This followed the success of his 2023 track “Albert’s Place”, which featured in the original series.
