The Amsterdam-based duo Weval (Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers) built their reputation on melancholic, cinematic electronic music: warm analogue textures, smooth basses, and voices that come across more as melodic instruments than as traditional vocal lines. After years of flitting between electronic music, slow house and alternative pop, they are now more definitively stepping onto the dancefloor.
The impetus behind this is their latest album CHOROPHOBIA, born from the realization that they had long restrained themselves due to that typical 'fear of dancing'. Live, that translates into faster BPMs, bold genre switches and a looser, rougher energy: acid and funk, bass pressure and a hint of psychedelic pop, more the feeling of a warm, messy house party than a tightly plotted club track. On November 27, 2026, they will bring that liberated, groove-driven set to MEZZ Breda.
