Thievery Corporation is the duo of producers Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, formed in Washington, D.C., and active since the mid-1990s. Their thing is to move electro between downtempo and trip-hop, weaving in dub, bossa nova, reggae, soul and jazz, with deliberate detours through the Middle East and India. A global sound that remains consistently fluid, conceived as a coherent collage rather than a patchwork.
Since Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi, their discography has laid down milestones with The Mirror Conspiracy, The Richest Man in Babylon, and Radio Retaliation: meticulously crafted productions, political themes subtly underlined, and a knack for balancing textures with guest voices. On stage, the project takes the form of a shifting collective, with musicians and vocalists from diverse backgrounds.
