Since their beginnings in 2012 with No Passion All Technique, Detroit's post-punk band Protomartyr has succeeded in evoking a sense of place. Their stark, incisive post-punk captures as well the rough humility of the Midwest, from which they hail, as the lucid, almost surgical gaze they cast on America. Composed of singer Joe Casey, guitarist Greg Ahee, drummer Alex Leonard, and bassist Scott Davidson, Protomartyr has become a reference point thanks to razor-sharp writing, where politics and poetry, directness and suggestion, mingle.
