If a Chinese Man Records Party is synonymous with big sound, it's because Chinese Man has always thought its music as a collective playground. Born in Aix-en-Provence in 2004 around Matteo, High Ku and SLY, the project quickly established itself with a distinctive blend: hip-hop, electro, dub and trip-hop, threaded with touches of funk, reggae or jazz. At its core, a science of sampling and basses that hit, beats often laid-back but precise, and guests who come to shake up formats, rap in English as well as in French.
Through the EPs and volumes of The Groove Sessions, then with albums like Racing With the Sun, Shikantaza or We’ve Been Here Before, Chinese Man refined this cinematic touch, tailor-made for the live show. On stage, the collective knows how to raise the tension, weaving textures, breaks and catchy refrains that stay with you, with the energy of a show conceived as a real set.
