When Ezra Collective lands at AFAS Live in Amsterdam on February 20, 2027, you won't get a classic jazz night but a set that leans as much on groove as on improvisation. The London collective, born out of the Tomorrow’s Warriors scene, mixes contemporary jazz with afrobeat, hip-hop, soul, dub and Caribbean accents. Think lively rhythms, tight interplay, and tracks that shift effortlessly between instrumental passages and more open, vocal moments. After early releases such as Chapter 7 and Juan Pablo: The Philosopher and the debut You Can’t Steal My Joy, the band sharpened that cross-pollination on Where I’m Meant to Be and Dance, No One’s Watching. Live, it comes through best: music that pushes, breathes and continually seeks a different angle.
Joy Anonymous warms up the evening with a live-driven club approach. The London duo Henry Counsell and Louis Curran builds its sound on house, UK garage, breakbeat and pop, with that typical British mix of euphoria and melancholy. Having started with improvised sets outdoors on the South Bank, their sound now translates to venues: driving basslines, hooks you can sing along to, and tension-building arcs that naturally pull you toward the dance floor. With Cult Classics they show how smoothly they switch between rave energy and more introspective moments.
