Stigmata presents Light Asylum (US) plus special guests.
Light Asylum is the techno-punk music project of vocalist and producer Shannon Funchess, founded in Brooklyn, New York in 2007. Performing at The Prince Albert, Light Asylum emerged in 2009 as part of a revival of late 70s to 90s electronic music inspired by pioneers of Detroit techno, Belgian new beat, EBM, gothic rock, Chicago house, new wave and synth pop.
In autumn 2011, the gothic club anthem Dark Allies appeared, with Funchess emoting eternal life in her contralto singing “Forever… and ever” on the debut In Tension EP (Mexican Summer/Kemado Records). A debut full-length self-titled LP released the following spring contributed to the dark wave genre that coincided with the cold wave revival in NYC’s underground music scene. Funchess then performed at venues such as Radio City Music Hall, Koko, the Sydney Opera House, Moulin Rouge and Berghain. Summer 2025 will mark the first release of Light Asylum since 2012.
