Mariza

On 21 April 2027 Mariza will perform at De Doelen in Rotterdam. Born in Lourenço Marques (Maputo) and raised in the Mouraria district of Lisbon, she offers fado that is firmly rooted in tradition while remaining open to contemporary arrangements and Lusophone influences. Since her breakthrough with Fado em Mim (2001) she has built a repertoire that moves between classics, original compositions and reinterpretations; albums such as Fado Curvo, Transparente, Terra and Fado Tradicional illustrate this trajectory. With Mundo (2015, produced by Javier Limón) she broadened her sonic palette without losing sight of the fado idiom.

Live, the focus is on voice, phrasing and nuance, supported by the Portuguese guitar and subtle orchestration: intimate when it needs to be, broader where the music allows. In 2020 she released Mariza canta Amália, an entire album dedicated to Amália Rodrigues; that legacy resonates through her set, alongside material from different periods of her career. At De Doelen she follows that line with a program that places the Lisbon tradition at its center while also leaving room for new colors.
