Busty and the Bass

Busty and the Bass will perform at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht on 5 July 2026. The nine-piece collective from Montréal has been developing its own blend of soul, jazz, R&B, funk, hip‑hop and dance since 2011, with a horn section that propels the music without losing sight of the melody. Originally formed as an instrumental band, their focus gradually shifted toward songs and vocals, but groove and jazz harmonies have remained at the core of their sound.

Live, the emphasis is on pulse and color: warm brass, synth lines that nod to the club, and rhythms that feel tight yet leave space for improvisation. The band draws on a catalogue that stretches from their early EPs through Uncommon Good and Eddie, to recent material such as ET Suite, Karneval and the album Forever Never Cares. On those recordings you can hear collaborations with the likes of Terrace Martin and Katie Tupper, incorporated into arrangements that are expanded on stage.

Since singer Nick Ferraro’s departure in 2022, the group has broadened its vocal lineup and live setup. The result is a set in which multiple voices alternate, motifs emerge from the horn section, and the band effortlessly shifts between deep grooves and buoyant hooks. Busty and the Bass deliver a show that showcases the breadth of their hybrid sound, firmly anchored in the interplay that defines them.
