Kelela « New Avatar »

Kelela brings New Avatar to Danforth Music Hall in Toronto on October 7, 2026. Raised in Washington, D.C. by Ethiopian-American parents and based in Los Angeles, she has built a sound where alternative R&B meets electronics and the pulse of UK club culture. She broke through with the 2013 mixtape Cut 4 Me, aligning precise, intimate vocals with grime, bass and R&G, followed by the Hallucinogen EP in 2015. Take Me Apart (2017, Warp) refined her approach with fragmentary structures, cool textures and sharp rhythmic detail. Since then, she’s released Raven in 2023, the rework project Rave:N, the Remixes in 2024, and the live album In the Blue Light in 2025, while collaborating with Solange, Danny Brown, Gorillaz, Clams Casino and PinkPantheress.

On stage, Kelela threads club pressure and slow-burn balladry, reworking catalog cuts and opening up new material. Agile vocals sit over low-end-heavy arrangements, sliding between experimental pop, contemporary R&B and the dancefloor. A focused live format that keeps the dynamics of her studio work intact while leaning into the immediacy of the room.
